In 1952, Gaby Aghion and her business partner Jacques Lenoir were among the first designers to coin the term pret-a-porter when they created Chloe, the luxury ready-to-wear label. Aghion named Chloe after a friends she believed embodied the carefree attitude of the modern young woman a the time. Shunning the formalities of the 1950s and stiffness of haute couture, the duo were pioneers of a style which was more readily accessible to women without compromising on quality.
